This paper introduces the discussion on the role of small and medium enterprises (SMEs)and the industrial sector in the accumulation processes in Latin American in the XXIcentury. Underlining the pressure of the neoliberal logic of global capital, it recognizesthe requirements and challenges that weigh on the industry sector and the SMEs to theconstruction of a post-neoliberal accumulation pattern in recent neo-developmentalismprojects. Based on this framework, it critically evaluates the Argentina’s experience (2002-2012) observing the industry and SME (internal and external) economic performance. This performance shows their alignment with an accumulation pattern that is compatiblewith the global capital’s logic, and does not alter its peripheral position deepenedunder the Washington Consensus.
