Desacralize teaching of classics in Sociology
Sociology Theory Classics Education
Main Article Content
There are four ways of assuming sociology. In two Colombian emblematic experiences, the exegetical study of
the great authors has been predominant in one of the studies, while the intermediate theories around areas of
problems have been the case in the other. Still, there is a widespread ritual or doctrinal reading of the classics
—reduced to only three— identified as founding fathers of the discipline. It is then necessary to desacralize
the teaching of these ones, under the idea of studying theory to learn to theorize, beginning by recognizing
that in addition to Marx, Durkheim and Weber—others like Tocqueville, Simmel and the first Chicago School
were also great classics.
