Conquering the American dream: successfull professional career paths

Abstract

This paper describes the drivers to the job insertion in an “adjusted employment” according to qualification of them, based on the construction of five labour trajectories of Colombian professional migrants who are American
residents. The professional certification to the American educational system, the English proficiency and the identification for legal contracts, are configured
as workers attributes which let get through the imposed obstacles for the labor
market and to compete with more equity and to build a successful career as a
migrant.
